Duane worked many years for Standard Oil and for Dewey Miller sales in Albion. In 1971, the family moved to Schuyler, where Duane was sales manager for Lonnie Spies Trailer Sales. In the mid-70’s, Duane became the Purchasing Manager for Spencer Beef Packing. He retired from that position with Cargill in 1990. He and Virginia moved to Cottonwood, AZ in 2000 where he enjoyed golf, Nebraska football, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the sites of the great Southwest.

Duane was an active member of the VFW throughout his time in Nebraska. He was also a volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels programs and at the Verde Valley Medical Center.

Duane is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Virginia, his children, Mark, Margaret Ann and Jerry, his parents, Gene and Grace, his brother, Darwin, and his nephew, Darwin Jr. (Butch). He is survived by his son, Timothy (Sherilyn) of Junction City, KS, his daughter, Susan of Flagstaff, AZ, his sister Beverly (Larry) Hagewood of Omaha, his grandchildren, Tammy, Jessica, Justin and John, many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Pepper.
